The 6th Environmental Conference approves the amendment of Environmenal Quality Act in line with Section 67 of the Constitution

BANGKOK, 24 December 2009 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva today chaired the 6th National Environmental Conference along with related units at Government House.

The conference resulted in the activation of the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry’s draft announcement for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA) by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE). The Ministerial Announcement aims at conducting analytical researches on projects that have great environmental impacts on society. The Ministerial Announcement is now pending an approval by the MNRE Minister in order to be enforced by the end of the year.

The amendments are necessitated by Section 67 of the Constitution, in accordance with the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act of 1992. The concerns and suggestions as an outcome of the conference will be submitted to the Committee in charge of finding solutions to the implementation in accordance with Section 67, paragraph 2 of the Constitution.
