Thailand-Russia to improve trade and investment partnership

BANGKOK, 29 December 2009 (NNT) – Thailand and Russia aim high in bilateral trade as they view each other as prospective markets in the next decade.

At a recent meeting between the Thai and Russian trade delegations in Bangkok, both sides shared experience in ways to increase trade opportunities. They agreed to exchange business representatives in the fields of automobile parts and service industry.

Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) Srirat Rastapana said the meeting was conducted in an atmosphere conducive to strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.

She said the higher employment rate in Russia has drawn a higher demand for goods and service, prompting the country to import more products. Russia eyes Thailand as another target country.

Major Thai exports to Russia are consumer goods, furniture and food. Thai exporters viewed Russia as a potential market claiming that Russia will be the important export market for Thailand within the next 10 years. More information can be found at www.depthai.go.th
