Thai judicial system needs patching

BANGKOK, 23 April 2010 (NNT) – The Office of Judiciary hosts a seminar on criminal justice reform in celebration of the 128th anniversary of Thailand’s Court of Justice.

Judicial Court Secretary General, Mr Wirat Chinwinikul, presided over the opening ceremony, stating that the seminar will improve collaboration and create a better understanding between the Judicial Court and international organizations in following Judicial system regulation when referring to international affairs.

Under the topic ‘Criminal Justice Reform in Global Context: Experience from the US and UK‘, participants discussed issues relating to the strengths and weaknesses of Thai, American and English Judicial Systems from previous cases.

Several sub-topics, including court sentencing, judicial process and the right to remain silent of the accused, the need to improve the efficiency, shorten the duration of cases and adjust the loopholes in the system while protecting the rights of the innocent accused were discussed.

Participants agreed that several factors can be used to improve the Thai Judicial System but must be thoroughly adjusted before actual implementation.
