Thai film wins top prize at Cannes Film Festival

BANGKOK, 24 May 2010 (NNT) – A Thai film, Lung Boonmee Raluek Chat (Uncle Boonmee who can Recall his Past Lives), directed by Mr Apichatpong Weerasethakul, wins the Palme d’Or top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Thai film made a history by winning the Palme d’Or at the 63rd Festival de Cannes organized in France from 12 to 23 May 2010. The film made by Mr Apichatpong beat important candidates in the competition like a British film, Another Year, directed and written by Mike Leigh.

Mr Apichatpong, in his speech of acceptance, gave recognition to all the ghosts and spirits in Thailand that made it possible for him to appear on the stage with a successful story.

This is the first time that a Thai film has won the top award from this famous international stage.
