Thai exports will target the Middle East

BANGKOK, 15 April 2010 (NNT) — Thailand will promote exports to the Middle East this year, due to the large market size and high purchasing power, according to Department of Export Promotion (DEP) Director-general Srirat Rastapana.

Ms Srirat further detailed that the population of the Middle Eastern market consists of 270 million people with high purchasing power, who have a dependency on imports, particularly consumer goods.

The Middle Eastern market provides a window of opportunity to expand other regions including China that has potential for growth, the DEP director-general said.

Thai businesses and services such as health, construction and restaurants are currently in demand in the Middle East. The DEP will promote these services as well as lifestyle services sending management-level representatives abroad to reinforce trade relationships. The DEP is currently expediting the promotion of products with growth potential such as food, automobile parts, gems and jewelry, fabrics, restaurants, spas, hospitals and construction said Ms Srirat.
