TAT to boost Thai travel among Australians

BANGKOK, 25 February 2010 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) along with Australia’s Department of Consular Affairs and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will cooperate to promote Australian visitors to Thailand.

According to Director of the TAT Sydney Office Silachai Surai, the TAT has proceeded with activities to stimulate the market through major agencies and the media. The budget allocated for the authority this year is 80 million THB.

The TAT is also preparing to target the niche market groups such as golf, yacht, and spa with specific media channels and messages. The TAT has also cooperated with a major Australian tour agency in a campaign to celebrate its 50th anniversary, said Mr Silachai.

The campaign is expected to draw 675,000-700,000 Australians after last year’s declined growth of 6% due to the instable political environment surrounding the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) has cooperated with the Tourism Council Of Thailand to expand the tourism market in Thailand by bringing 50 Thai SME entrepreneurs to Australia’s travel fair. 250 Australian tour agencies will participate in the event.
