Sukhumbhand elected as 16th Bangkok governor

 MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the Democrat Party has won the Bangkok gubernatorial election with a record-high number of votes, surpassing 1.25 million votes.

According to the unofficial result of 100% vote count on Sunday March 3rd, MR Sukhumbhand has gained 1.25 million votes, defeated Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen who had 1.07 million votes. Pol Gen Seripisut Temeeyaves grabbed the third place with 166,465 votes.

Later in the day at the Democrat headquarter, MR Sukhumbhand expressed his gratitude to the people who helped him to get more than one million votes in the election. He pledged to work harder and be more committed to serve the Bangkokians.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinnawatra together with Pol Gen Pongsapat made an official announcement by conceded defeats and congratulated MR. Sukhumbhand. Prime Minister Yingluck also promised that the government would work “cooperatively” with him as a newly elected Bangkok governor.

MR Sukhumbhand becomes the gubernatorial election winner with the biggest number of votes. The previous record was held by the late Samak Sundaravej at 1.01 million votes in 2000.
