Solar energy adopted in Sci & Tec villages

BANGKOK, 24 May 2010 (NNT) – The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) join hands with the Department of Science Service (DSS) to develop solar energy for the use in the science and technology village in Ang Thong Province as the first such a village in the country.

NSTDA Director Assistant Prof Sakkarin Phumirattana cited that Khao Hom Nin Village in Wiset Chaichan district of Ang Thong was selected as the model sci and tech village. Solar energy technology will be developed for the use in the village for thermal energy and electricity as well as preserving agricultural products with dehydration technique.

The institute of Solar Energy Technology Development (SOLARTECH) will be responsible for the installation of 56 solar cells for electricity generation of 2.5 kilowatts with experts dispatched to transfer technology to villagers at the site. Solar technology will be expanded to other villages particularly at the border areas thereafter.

DSS Director- General Kasem Piritburana said that the 2.5 – kilowatt generated solar energy in Khao Hom Nin village would be transmitted to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in order to help relieve the village’s expense on other activities such as community’s rice mill, run by electric motors.
