Senate Whip suggests Parliament draft charter amendments

BANGKOK, 26 September 2009 (NNT) – The Senate Whip has suggested Parliament draft charter amendments before forwarding them to the government for referendum, in order to stifle any opposition from the upper and lower houses early on.

Deputy Chairman of the Senate Whip Nikom Wairatpanich remarked on Saturday that the constitutional revision should be taken up by Parliament since the Reconciliation Committee previously responsible for the matter had ended its term. He said that having Parliament begin the process would help to clear up any objections that Senators and MPs may have.

Mr Nikom said the only other foreseeable way to draft the amendments would be to reinstate the Reconciliation Committee. All of suggestions will be presented during a meeting of the 3 Whips this coming 1 October.
