Security hightened at MRC Summit

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 3 April 2010 (NNT) – Minister of Defense General Prawit Wongsuwan is satisfied with the security measures enforced at the First Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit taking place in the seaside province of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

The defense minister has visited the meeting venue in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi provinces on the first day the Internal Security Act has been activated. The summit is held at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hua Hin since yesterday and will end on 5 April.

Gen Prawit said he has not found any flaws in the “Hua Hin – Cha-am 531” and “Korakot 52” operational plans. He believed that the 8,000 security forces will be able to safeguard the 260 meeting attendees and maintain orderliness around the venue.

There has been no report of movements of any groups in the area so far.
