Scuffle occurs again in Lumpini Park, gun shots heard at intervals

BANGKOK, 14 May 2010 (NNT) — A scuffle occurred between the military forces and some groups of anti-government protesters in Lumpini Park.

According to reports, military forces have entered Lumpini Park, while some military forces maintaining order outside the park have aimed their weapons towards the park. Gunshots were heard in the area at intervals.

At 13.30 hrs, two GMC vehicles and a white van were seen at the Wireless Road intersection along with nine vehicles from the Royal Thai Police, speculated to be the increased anti-riot measures deployed by the government after the violence that broke out last Thursday.

On Thursday night, violence broke out near the Sala Daeng intersection. A series of gun bullets were fired and a core figure of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol was shot in the incident while giving an interview to a foreign press.
