Puea Thai questions BMA plan to acquire loans for train extension

BANGKOK, 13 June 2009 (NNT)-The Puea Thai Party has voiced opposition towards the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s plan to acquire 20 billion baht in loans for sky-train extensions, saying the act would only add to the growing public debt.

Puea Thai Deputy Spokesman Chirayu Huangsup made his comment on the BMA Governor’s plan to acquire 20 billion baht in loans to be used in extending sky-train lines in the capital by saying that the project would only serve to incur further debt for the public. The party has also questioned why the project was not opened for auction by private companies and why it chose to acquire loans from Bangkok Bank and not a state – owned banks such as Krung Thai Bank.

Mr. Chirayu said the opposition party called for the plan to be thoroughly reviewed with its pros and cons weighed out before proceeding and a detailed report on the matter should be made public.
