Puea Thai fields Korkaew for Bangkok by-election

BANGKOK, 23 June 2010 (NNT) – The opposition Puea Thai Party has resolved to select Mr Korkaew Pikulthong, key leader of the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), to contest in the 25 July by-election in Bangkok.

Deputy leader of the Puea Thai Party Plodprasob Surasawadee announced that the party’s executives had nominated Mr Korkaew to run in the by-election in Bangkok’s constituency 6. He stated that the candidate was a suitable individual since he had resided in the area for a long time.

Mr Plodprasob also cited the lack of qualifications of UDD core leader Nattawut Saikua as the main reason for the party’s decision not to select him for the by-election.

Therefore, on 25 July, Mr Korkaew will be contesting against Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Panich Vikitsreth, the Democrat candidate, for the post left vacant by late Democrat MP Tiva Ngernyuang.
