SURAT THANI, 30 August 2009 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) Secretary General anticipated that over 60% of Surat Thani people would vote in the by-election at the Constituency 1 today.

From his inspection into election in the province, EC Secretary General Sutthipol Thaweechaikarn said neither complaint nor corruption had been seen. The consignment of electoral equipments proceeded smoothly and the officers overseeing each polling station had been trained, he said.

He further stated that the province had made use of local media agencies to publicize information pertaining to the election. He expected that no less than 60% of 330,000 eligible people would show up at the vote, adding the weather might have an impact on the number of voters.

Speed boats would be used for the transportation of ballot boxes in the island areas, the EC Secretary General said. Helicopters were also prepared incase weather conditions hindered the speed boats in transporting the ballot boxes.
