Acting National Police Chief appointed

BANGKOK, 4 August 2009 (NNT) - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has appointed Pol Gen Wichian Pojphosri as Acting National Police Chief while dismissing speculation that he would replace Pol Gen Patcharavat Wongsuwan.

The appointment of Pol Gen Wichian came in advance of the vacation leave during 5 to 14 August of Pol Gen Patcharavat, the incumbent National Police Commissioner-General, who was caught up in speculation that he had intervened in the investigation process of Mr Sondhi Limthongkul’s shooting case.

The Acting Police Chief reported himself to Prime Minister Abhisit shortly after his official appointment at Government House.
