Abhisit Vejjajiva shrugged off the speculated meeting between Bhumjaithai Party thumbnail

BANGKOK, 16 August 2009 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva shrugged off the speculated meeting between Bhumjaithai Party core leader Newin Chidchob, Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and other high-ranking military officers in Singapore.

After recording his weekly program ‘Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit’, the Prime Minister gave an interview to the media. When asked for his reaction to the report that Mr Newin had traveled to Singapore to seek talks with Gen Prawit and other prominent military figures, Mr Abhisit stated that he neither gave attention to the matter nor questioned for any further details. He explained that usually cabinet members would inform him ahead of their missions abroad.

In terms of a speculation that some coalition parties were working with the military to make political changes, Prime Minister Abhisit replied that he had no problem as long as the change was constitutional. He, however, said that he did not expect to see any changes in the near future since all coalition parties had been working together to maintain stability in the country, and any change at the moment would sway them from their goal.
