People in 35 provinces warned of disasters

BANGKOK, 1 June 2009 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) warns about heavy rain, flash flood and landslide in 35 provinces during June 1-6.

DDPM had warned people living in areas at risk such as on the slope of the mountain or river basin area in 35 provinces to be aware of danger from heavy rain, which could cause flash flood and landslide during June 1-6. They were told to keep updating the weather forecast continuously.

The warning said if any abnormal signs were seen such as sudden change of color of water to resemble soil on the mountain, or rapid rise of water level in the creeks, panic of wildlife, strange noise from the watershed forest, they should rush to seek refuge on high grounds for their safety.

Those 35 provinces include Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kean, Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Udon Thani, Nongkhai, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Kamphaeng Phet, Uthai Thani, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Uttaradit, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun.
