Natural gas leak in the Gulf of Thailand

BANGKOK, 26 June 2011 (NNT)- PTT detects natural gas leak in the Gulf of Thailand. Fishing boats are warned to clear the area.

Mr. Vichai Pornkiratiwat, Executive Vice President for Natural Gas Distribution at PTT revealed that a gas leak was found during the evening hours of Saturday June 25. The leakage was detected in pipelines of designated 81st kilometer area delivering natural gas to the production compartment in the sea, stated Mr. Vichai.

As for the cause, PTT are currently undergoing investigations to seek out the root of the problem and safety measures will be reenacted as soon as possible. As a precaution, PTT had arranged for sea patrol to safeguard the area and warned fishing boats to clear the site.

Furthermore, PTT had also re-routed natural gas delivery from other sources as part of the preliminary procedure of containment. It also includes utilizing Liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel oil as supplement for the loss.
