More banks closed amid mass protest

BANGKOK, 16 March 2010 (NNT) – Seven branches of commercial banks have today requested temporary suspension of their operations for safety concerns, according to the Bank of Thailand (BOT).

Krung Thai Bank has closed its branches at the Government House, the Ministry of Defence, the Parliament, Ratchadamnoen Klang Road, the Ministry of Education, Banglamphu Road, and Khao Sarn Road. The Thai Military Bank has closed its Sri Pathum University branch.

Thanachart Bank has ordered the closure of its Ratchadamnoen Klang branch and instead temporarily opened its Bang Laumphoo branch for banking services until the overall situation returns to normal.

Siam Commercial Bank has closed its Ratchadamnoen Klang branch and opened its Phra Pinkhlao bridge branch instead. Bangkok Bank has closed its Phan Fa bridge branch. Bank of Ayutthaya has closed its branch at PTT Plc on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, and the Siam City Bank has closed its Ratchadamnoen branch.
