Malaysians and Singaporeans flock to Betong during the Vegetarian Fest

Bangkok, 17 October 2009 (NNT)-Betong Mayor stated the district’s readiness to accommodate tourists from Malaysia and Singapore including Thais during the Vegetarian Festival, particularly in the Hindu-Malaysian New Year, when a lot of Malaysians flock to Betong.

Mr. Kunawut Mongkonprajak, the Mayor of Betong district, Yala province cited that the Vegetarian Festival was a well-established tradition. Emphasis is placed on traditional conservation regarding foods and costumes.

The Festival this year is held during 17-26 October and there would be many tourists from Malaysia and Singapore come to Betong, particularly on 17 October , the New Year of Hindu- Malaysian when a large number of that segment would come to celebrate in Betong as well

Betong is also ready in terms of accommodations especially for the room services that expected to be fully reserved during the festival and the income from tourism of this period could reach Bt20 million.

Mr. Suchat Booncharuen, the Inspector of Betong Custom House said that the Vegetarian festival and Hindu-Malaysian New Year made up a long holiday in Malaysia. He basically reiterated to the personnel to take care and strictly inspect around the border areas which emphasized on investigation of vehicles and luggage to prevent the entry of illegal objects and to promote the tourism services and to enhance tourists’ confidence.
