Lower SET Index mainly caused by domestic political issue

BANGKOK, 27 January 2010 (NNT) – A recent drop of the SET market was mainly caused by investors’ concern on the domestic political situation.

President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), Patareeya Benjapolchai, said the stock index dropped by 5% since last week. She said that the SET had to lower the stock base after the index previously increased by 8.2%.

Mrs Patareeya reasoned that the controlled loan growth in China and Thailand’s domestic political situation, especially the constitutional amendment, were the main causes of the slump.

Ms Patareeya urged investors to closely monitor the stock movement and be cautious of the current fluctuation. The SET president also urged investors to focus on the most reliable stocks.
