Hundred thousands of tourists celebrate Songkran on Khao San Rd

BANGKOK, 15 April 2010 (NNT) – Khao San Road today is crowded with local and international tourists after the protesters of United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) have abandoned Phan Fa Bridge and moved to Ratchaprasong Junction.

According to President of Khao San Business Association, Prasit Singdamrong, water splashing activity being held for the last day on Khao San Road had attracted hundred thousands of international tourists and local visitors. The number has immediately boosted up to 50% after the relocation.

An overall assessment stated up to 200 thousands visitors partook in the festivities on Khao San Road during the four days celebration. However, the association is still concerned that the tourists might have arrived only during the festival as many of them would consider political situation before deciding to revisit.

Mr Prasit, on behalf of the association, called on the government to urgently solve political rifts and not to let the unrest spread as the prolongation might heighten declining rate in the tourism sector.
