House dissolution issued, effective tomorrow

BANGKOK, 9 May 2011 (NNT) – His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has endorsed the royal decree on House dissolution set to take effect tomorrow while the general election date is scheduled on 3 July.

Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister and Acting Government Spokesperson Panitan Wattanayagorn announced that HM the King had granted his approval for the royal decree on the dissolution of the House, which was presented by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on 6 May before his departure for Jakarta, Indonesia, to attend the 18th ASEAN Summit. The decree will come into effect on 10 May and the fresh election will be arranged on 3 July.

Based on the political calendar between now and the election date, the registration of MP candidates in the party-list system will take place during 19-23 May while those in the constituency system will be able to sign up during 24-28 May. The advanced poll will be held from 8.00-15.00 hrs on 26 June, a week before the official election.
