Growth expected for Thai gems and jewelry industry

BANGKOK, 11 February 2010 (NNT) — President of the Thai Gem and Jewellery Traders Association (TGJTA) Vichai Assarasakorn is optimistic that the Thai gems and jewelry industry has potential for growth.

The TGJTA president said that Thai jewelry exports in Q4 of last year grew by 18.04%, with an export value of 330 billion THB. His 2010 forecast expects 18% growth this year, worth 390 billion THB.

An association long term plan extending to the year 2015 has set sights to push the Kingdom’s gems and jewelry export sector into the global top ten. To achieve this the industry will have to hold no less than 4% of the global market share with export value of 810 billion THB and 18% annual growth.
