GPO confident swine flu vaccines to be in production by Dec

BANGKOK, 2 September 2009 (NNT) – The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) has assured that the production of vaccines against influenza A (H1N1) will be ready by December.

Chairman of the GPO Board MD Wichai Chokwiwat spoke today of progress being made to experiments on producing vaccines against swine flu, saying that the GPO’s latest tests were very successful with results almost matching those of tests conducted in Russia. If results this afternoon prove satisfactory, the GPO will move onto testing the vaccines with Guinea Pigs and growing the vaccine cultures in petri dishes.

Human trials have been moved from 7 September to 21 September with 24 volunteers already ready for the tests. MD Wichai was adamant that the vaccines would be ready for production by December.
