Get a Head Start in Growing Your Wealth at Invest Fair Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, July 11, 2013 – (ACN Newswire) – ShareInvestor, the financial internet media and technology subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), will be hosting its signature Invest Fair events in Malaysia to encourage retail investors to grow their wealth through investing in diverse asset classes.

From 13-14 July, Shareinvestor’s Malaysia-based subsidiary SI Portal.com will organise the fifth edition of Invest Fair Malaysia to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It has secured the backing and support of partners such as Bursa Malaysia, the country’s listed stock exchange operator that offers trading, clearing, depository and settlement services and Alliance Bank, an integrated banking group offering end-to-end banking and financial solutions through its consumer banking, business banking, Islamic banking, investment banking and stockbroking businesses.

This year’s Invest Fair Malaysia will focus on attracting younger Malaysians to start investing early. According to a report commissioned in 2009 by Bursa Malaysia, less than 2 per cent of Malaysians aged 20 years and above actively invested in shares although they are familiar with publicly listed company and share trading. Their perception is that share trading is a high-risk activity and this deters them from investing in shares. Instead, they prefer to invest in savings and fixed deposits which offer lower rate of returns.

A recent census reported that youths between the ages of 20 and 29 years make up 19.3 per cent of the total population of Peninsular and Eastern Malaysia. They are generally well-educated and internet-savvy and keen to build-up their assets for the future. It is these groups of investors that Invest Fair Malaysia aims to address by offering quality investor education programmes and services.

Invest Fair Malaysia will feature more than 30 local and international exhibitors, comprising financial institutions, financial services companies as well as training and education providers. There are also more than 20 free and paid seminars and workshops where visitors will hear industry experts speak on the latest investment offerings and offer tips and insights in financial planning and wealth management. Visitors can also find out more about investing in asset classes such as contracts-for-difference, options and futures among others.

Also present for the first time at Invest Fair Malaysia are representatives from the region’s leading bourses – Bursa Malaysia, Stock Exchange of Thailand and Singapore Exchange. Visitors can get the latest on cross-border trading of equities in the region’s leading blue-chip counters that are listed in the three bourses.

Notable speakers who will be present at Invest Fair Malaysia include Mr Chong Kim Seng, Chief Executive Officer, Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad; Mr Wong Weiyi, General Manager of Fundsupermart.com; Mr Adam Khoo, Executive Chairman & Co-Founder, Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group and Mr Francis Eng, Chief Investment Officer, OSK-UOB Investment Management Berhad.

Mr Christopher Lee, Chief Executive Officer of ShareInvestor, said: “Today’s investors are getting younger, better educated and very internet savvy. They have access to extensive investment information online but still appreciate the opportunity to attend seminars conducted by industry experts and the chance to interact with the presenters and fellow investors. As informed investors, they are also willing to invest in other asset classes besides equities. The success of past Invest Fair events can be attributed to our alliances with reputable partners such as financial institutions and investor educators who share with us a common vision of promoting financial literacy. These events will continue to serve our Malaysian investors and offer them a one-stop shop of investment choices and opportunities, reflecting our company’s motto – ‘Invest with Knowledge’.”

Admission to Invest Fair Malaysia is free.
