TAT to revive tourism in Song Phi Nong district

BANGKOK, 29 January 2010 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will revive Song Phi Nong district in Suphanburi province, emphasizing arts and cultural tourism.

Part of the efforts is to revive Bang Li market, considered essential to the livelihood of the people, according to Song Phi Nong Municipal Mayor Wiroj Kanuwattana, adding that locals in the area are mostly rice farmers and fishermen.

Song Phi Nong Municipal Mayor Wiroj Kanuwattana said that currently the locals as well as government officials were cooperating to improve the area with a success of the development lying in a number of tourists visiting the district.

Song Phi Nong, literally meaning “two siblings” in Thai, has a lot of interesting sites and trips such as following the footsteps of legendary country diva Poompuang Duangjan and National Music Artist Jang Klaisingthong, visiting the golden Buddha statue “Luang Por Nong” at Wat Rong Pai Wua Temple, and canalling along Song Phi Nong river.
