PM not turning back to Parliament dissolution
By k on February 28, 2010
|
BANGKOK, FEBRUARY 28, 2010- The Prime Minister has indicated that he has no aversion to dissolving Parliament and calling a general election if all sides can accept and abide by election rules.
Referring to growing calls for a Parliament dissolution, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said he did not opposed the idea as long as all parties are willing to conform to the rules of elections. He said he believed that reconciliation is possible only when the public accept some kinds of common stance. If the parliament was dissolved and new elections took place, and then the same situation of election frauds and violent rally were repeated, such a democratic effort would be futile. Mr. Abhisit stated that if a new administration were to be elected only to continue the cycle of political vendetta and aggressive public protests, that would undermine democracy. On the frequent lacks of quorum which caused disruption to Parlimentary meetings, the PM said he could not absolve MPs from their absence. It was the duty of the government whips to remedy the situation. |
