PHUKET, 15 July 2009 (NNT) – Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob has voiced readiness of the province to host the upcoming ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which will be organized in the province from 17 to 23 July 2009.

In an interview with NNT, the Governor said the province was more than 90% ready for the meeting, adding that the only remaining details to be wrapped up were the decorations in the province. He reasoned that some of the decorations were fresh flowers and therefore could not be prepared in advance.

As for fruits to be served in the meeting, Mr Wichai said the fruits would indeed include Phuket pineapple, a famous fruit of the province. In addition, he informed that other fruits would also be available, such as mangosteen, rambutan and durian. However, this would depend on the agreement of representatives of Ministers.

In regards to souvenirs, the Governor said the final decision would be made by the Foreign Ministry. He said at present, the Ministry had not yet finalized the decision. He however affirmed that the province was ready to supply all types of souvenirs as preferred by the Ministry, adding that the souvenirs would surely represent the southern province of Phuket.
