Gen Prawit explains use of Internal Security Act at AMM in Phuket

BANGKOK, 25 June 2009 (NNT) – Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has clarified the necessity for an implementation of the Internal Security Act within Phuket province during the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on 16 to 23 July 2009.

After attending a conference for the preparation of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Gen Prawit stated that the government will strengthen security measures to ensure that the regional gathering will be conducted smoothly. He elaborated that the enforcement of the Internal Security Act during the meeting will be necessary in order to stave off any possible violent incidents or protests.

The Defense Minister assured that the Internal Security Act will not affect tourism and business operations in Phuket province.
