Foreigners continually arrive in Phang-Nga for 5th Tsunami Commemoration

BANGKOK, 24 December 2009 (NNT) – Families of the 2005 Tsunami victims continually arrived in the southern province of Phang Nga for the annual ceremony held in commemoration of the Tsunami.

The Tsunami hit areas in Phan-Nga are crowded with tourists and family members of the Tsunami victims. Flowers and garlands line the cemetery in Takua Pa District while the Tsunami Memorial Museum is another popular tourist spot.

Phang-Nga Governor, Yiumsuriya Palusuk, said that over 3,000 family members and relatives of the Tsunami victims are expected to attend the commemorative events in the Takua Pa District of Phang Nga on the night of 26 December 2009. The event will be presided over by the Minister of Education, Jurin Laksanawisit.

The event features religious ceremonies for Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Hindu’s and Sikh’s as well as the official commemoration, candle lighting ceremony and the release of 2,552 floating lanterns.
