Foreign Ministry confirms the readiness of 15th ASEAN Summit

Bangkok, 17 October 2009 (NNT)-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Thailand was fully ready to host 15th ASEAN Summit and related Summits at Cha Am and Hua Hin districts during 23-25 October under the theme of Community Connectivity and People Reinforcement.

Mr. Thani Thongpakdi, Deputy Director of the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the readiness of Thailand as the host for 15th ASEAN Summit and related Summits at Cha Am district, Phetchaburi province and Hua Hin district, Phrajuap Khiri Khan province during 23-25 October 2009.

As for the security, the government has activated the ISA within the relevant 5 sub-districts in Hua Hin and 4 sub-districts in Cha Am in order to secure such areas.

The major issues in this Summit are the Community Networking and People Reinforcement. Moreover, there would be the launch of the inter-ASEAN commission for human rights to take care and insure the rights of the people of the 10 member countries including cooperation in education.

The conferences will be held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Cha Am district while the information center is located at the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort and Spa Hotel with the 3,000 participants from 16 countries.

The leaders conference will be held during 23-25 October while the conference among directors- general and ministers will start from 21 October onward. The opening ceremony has been set on 23 October and on 25 October the Thai Prime Minister as ASEAN Chair will read the official communique.
