Foreign Ministry aiding Thais in Haiti

BANGKOK, 19 January 2010 (NNT) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand pledges to urgently assist three Thai victims in the Caribbean country of Haiti after a magnitude 7.0 quake rocked the country.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson and Information Department Director-General, Vimon Kidchob, the ministry is cooperating with other donor countries to help the three Thai people back to Thailand as soon as possible.

Three Thai victims are Thanomsri Waton, a UN official’s spouse, Thanin and Soithong Chinchukaew, two workers of a restaurant owned by Ms Thanomsri in Haiti. They have notified the ministry of their intention to return to Thailand.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya declared that the three Thai people would depart from Haiti to Mexico City in Mexico by a Mexican military aircraft.
