FED’s interest elevation has no impact on Thailand
BANGKOK, 19 February 2010 (NNT) – The recent increase of 0.25% in the US Federal Reserve (FED)’s interest rate has no impact on the Thai interest policy, according to the Bank of Thailand.
BoT Assistant Governor on Monetary Policy, Mr Paiboon Kittisrikangwan, said that the rate adjustment will not affect the Monetary Policy Committee’s deliberation on the interest rate policy. The interest rate evaluation in Thailand is usually based on economic fundamental factors.
Mr Paiboon stated that the 0.25% increase is not significant enough to indicate that the US will soon withdraw their stimulus measures.
The Monetary Policy Committee will be holding a meeting on 10 March to discuss the issue.
