Energy unit says enough fuel supply during protests

BANGKOK, 17 March 2010 (NNT) – Oil supply will be adequate during the street-protests of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), assures Department of Energy Business Director-General Peerapol Sakarin.

Mr Peerapol said the petrol and gas transportation to gas stations in the capital thus far had not been affected by the mass rallies starting on 12 March 2010.

The director-general added that gas and petrol were delivered normally with businesses changing to transport their products early morning instead of night time. From the overall situation, the department has not stepped up security for energy transportation.

Mr Peerapol added that only a few gas stations located near the rally sites of the UDD or on the roads the group passed were closed down.

Meanwhile, Mr Witthaya Wangchittrarak, the deputy managing director for Retail Marketing Division of PTT Plc, reported that only one gas station of the company at the First Infantry Battalion of the First Infantry Regiment on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road was closed at present.
