Energy Ministry launches “Car Free Day” campaign

BANGKOK, 22 September 2009 (NNT) – Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul chaired the “Car Free Day” campaign to promote energy conservation among the people, protect the environment and tackle global warming.

MD Wannarat, joined by officials from the Energy Ministry and public members, led a parade of bicycles as part of an energy saving campaign from the Energy Ministry to Government House. The minister stated that the ministry had designated 22 September as a “Car Free Day”, aiming to promote energy saving, use of alternative energy including gasohol, biodiesel and natural gas for vehicles (NGV), as well as commuting via public transportation.

The Energy Minister suggested the public to reduce the use of personal cars not only on the “Car Free Day” but also on a regular basis. He also noted that people traveling in the same direction could resort to carpooling as a way to conserve energy.
