EGAT to adjust this year power consumption volume by 4.72%

BANGKOK, 3 February 2010 (NNT) – The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has adjusted the volume of electricity consumption by 4.72% and the peak consumption volume to be 5.21%.

EGAT Governor, Sutat Pattamasirawat, stated that the power consumption in January 2010 increased by 21.01% or 2,132 million units when compared to the previous year of 12,281 million units. It resulted from the export sector expansion since the end of last year, while the consumption volume tended to rise continuously. EGAT, thus, has adjusted this years power consumption growth from 4% to 4.72% or 151,100 million units, while the peak consumption was adjusted from 3.5% to 5.21% or 23,000 megawatts. The adjustment was in line with national economic improvement.

In handling the rise of power consumption volume this year, the Governor said there was a supplementary plan with the operation of Phra Nakhon Nuea Combined Heat and Power Plant with a production capacity of 700 megawatts, and the operation of Nam Thoen Hydro Power Plant from Lao PDR with a capacity of 920 megawatts. Both power plants are expected to be operational in March this year. Mr Sutat said that power saving measures would be implemented. He hoped it would help to save power by 1,500 megawatts.
