ASEAN+3 economic ministers agree to start FTA feasibility study soon

BANGKOK, 15 August 2009 (NNT) – ASEAN+3 economic ministers today agreed to mutually conduct a feasibility study on the free trade agreement (FTA) soon in the hope of pushing member countries’ gross domestic product (GDP) up by 1.2 percent.

Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai revealed ASEAN economic ministers and their counterparts from China, Japan and South Korea had acknowledged the possibility to gain the rising GDP under the ASEAN+3 FTA.

Under the planned FTA, Mrs. Porntiva said ASEAN member countries would gain utmost befits as their GDP alone would hike by 3.6 percent, while the increase of 0.9 percent solely would be seen in China, Japan and South Korea.

Mrs. Porntiva said Thailand alone would gain the higher GDP of up to 4.5 percent under the planned agreement
