Consumer might face eggs price hike amidst flooding

AYUTTHAYA, 16 October 2011 (NNT) – The current devastating flood in Thailand may cause the price of chicken eggs to increase.

Mr. Narong Jiemjaibunjong , President of the association of layer farmers, traders and exporters, revealed that the ongoing severe inundation in several areas, particularly where egg farms and manufacturers are located, will lower egg supply and inevitably lead to an increase of eggs prices. However, he said that broiler chickens have not been much affected thus far since most farms are situated on higher grounds.

There has also been a report that a million of chicken raised on a farm in Bang Pa-In of Ayutthaya have died following devastating floods. The farm is one of Thailand’s major suppliers of eggs.
