Cabinet delays approval of NASA’s request

BANGKOK, 19 June 2012  – The Cabinet on Tuesday has not discussed NASA’s request to use the U-tapao airport for weather work, giving the reason that opinions from relevant units must be factored in.

Government Spokesperson Sansanee Nakphong said the NASA’s request to use the airport from August to September 2012 was not included in the agenda of the Cabinet meeting today. Although the prime minister had already called a meeting to discuss the issue with national security units, the Council of the State must look into NASA’s request to decide whether Section 190 of the Constitution was applicable to it, Ms.Sansanee said.

If the Council of the State rules that the issue is considered as an international agreement in accordance with Section 190, it must be submitted to Parliament for approval before the government can proceed with it
