Rice price in Govt´s guarantee scheme concluded

BANGKOK, 30 July 2009 (NNT) – The National Rice Committee has set the price and quantity for the rice price guarantee scheme and has approved seven measures to help stabilize rice price.
After the meeting of the National Rice Committee, Deputy Government Spokesperson Watchara Kannika said the guarantee price for White Rice and Pathum Thani Rice 1 was set at 10,000 baht per ton while the maximum quantity allowed was 20 tons per person. As for other types of rice, he said there would be further discussions again.
The Spokesperson further stated that the Committee also endorsed seven measures to stabilize rice price; however, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had tasked the National Rice Subcommittee on Marketing to revise details and present to the meeting of the Committee again next week.
In addition, Mr Watchara stated that the Committee gave nods to distribute 6,150,000 rice sacks, weighing 24,600 tons instead of cash for disasters victims.
