Benzene consumption rises by 2% in April 2010

BANGKOK, 12 May 2010 (NNT) – Thailand’s petrol consumption in the benzene category for April 2010 has increased by 2% month-on-month, according to the Department of Energy Business (DOEB), under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy.

DOEB Director-General Peerapol Sakarin reported that benzene consumption last month rose about 20.4 million liters a day when compared with March 2010, due to long holidays during the Songkran Festival, whenmany people returned to their hometown.

Nevertheless, the April 2010 consumption figure has declined by 3% when compared with the same period in 2009.

Mr Peerapol reported further that diesel consumption decreased by 4% or 52.4 million liters per day on average compared with the previous month, while use of Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV) dwindled by 6%.

On the other hand, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) consumption among Thai people has increased by 2% month-on-month due to the end of the sugarcane milling season.
