Bangchak’s market share boosted following alternative energy campaign

BANGKOK, 20 March 2010 (NNT) – The implementation of the alternative energy policy of the Bangchak Petroleum Plc has boosted the firm’s market share in the benzene and gasohol sector to 14%.

Bangchak Petroleum President, Dr Anusorn Sangnimnuan, said the company could see a significant growth in sales since it has continually promoted the use of biodiesel and gasohol. At present, the sales quantity of benzene and gasohol is approximately 74 million liters per month, an increase from 72 million liters in the past.

Bangchak Petroleum focuses on selling only alternative fuels such as gasohol E20 whose daily sales quantity has increased from 4.2 million liters to 5.5 million liters. The firm is trying to replace Benzene 91 with E20 and to completely stop distributing benzene 91 in 3 years.

Currently, E20 is only sold in 170 out of all Bangchak gas stations while there is only 1 station for E85. Bangchak is planning to make E20 available in at least 300 stations and E85 in 5 more stations by the year end.

Bangchak will continue to sell gasohol E20 and E85 even though other large companies have reduced their selling quantities. Most new car models are E20-compatible while 300,000 new cars hit the market each year, said Dr Anusorn.
