Paris, France, January 9, 2013 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has been named a Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator, recognizing its achievements as one of the world’s most innovative companies.

The program, an initiative of the IP Solutions business of Thomson Reuters, honors corporations and institutions around the world that are at the heart of innovation as measured by a series of proprietary patent-related metrics.  This is the second year in a row that Alcatel-Lucent was named a Top 100 Global Innovator.

The Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator methodology is based on four principle criteria: overall patent volume, patent grant success rate, global reach of the portfolio and patent influence as evidenced by citations by other companies related to their own inventions.

“We welcome this recognition of our commitment to innovation, and of our continual effort to augment our patent portfolio with important breakthroughs,” said Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. “Alcatel-Lucent’s devotion to innovation is far more than a component of our strategy – it is the foundation of everything that we do.”

Alcatel-Lucent’s world-class patent portfolio is one of the largest portfolios in the telecom industry, covering a broad spectrum of technology, with some 45,000 patent assets, including more than 30,000 issued U.S. patents and some 15,000 applications.
