Abhisit concedes,yingluck thank

Prime Minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has acknowledged his defeat in the general election while Pheu Thai candidate Yingluck Shinawatra has thanked all sides for their support and contribution to a peaceful poll.

After the end of the general election today, Mr Abhisit made a televised speech, expressing his appreciation for all Thai citizens’ participation in the poll. In response to the exit polls suggesting Pheu Thai as the winner, the Democrat candidate running for re-election asserted his willingness to accept the result, adding that he would like to see unity and reconciliation in the Thai society from now on.

Mr Abhisit also urged Pheu Thai to implement all of its policies as promised to the Thai people in order to improve their quality of life while pledging that the Democrat would serve as the opposition to the best of its ability and in a constructive manner.

Shortly afterwards, Ms Yingluck made her announcement, thanking her supporters for their votes as well as press members for their coverage of the Pheu Thai Party’s campaign activities for the past 40 days. She also expressed gratitude to Mr Abhisit and all other candidates for doing their part in creating an amicable atmosphere throughout this election.

As the poll has not been officially concluded, the leading contender said she would not yet boast about her victory, noting that the road ahead was the mission to solve economic problems, create reconciliation and move the country forward. She then revealed that Pheu Thai had already discussed with the Chart Thai Pattana Party about the formation of the new coalition government together.
