Alcatel-Lucent Insights Latest Small Cells at CAT DAY 2012 For coverage and capacity for less investment

Mr. Kittipong Mekvichitsaeng, Senior Executive Vice President, Wireless Business at CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (middle) has listened to the presentation of Small Cells, lightRadio™ and Femto Cells elaborated by Tanyarit Pantarawong  (4th from left), Wireless Engineer at Alcatel-Lucent (Thailand) Co., Ltd., organized at CAT Telecom PCL recently. This small cell family provides significant boosts in capacity that can be used to support the ever-increasing growth of data on wireless 2G, 3G, 4G LTE as well as wifi networks.  It can offer the customers the quality of mobile broadband experience they expect, keeping them connected wherever they are.

Additional information:

Wireless operators in Thailand have been building macro networks for a long time, and Alcatel-Lucent has continuously been improving the spectral efficiency so huge traffic can be transmitted over the same spectrum. Today, wireless operators continue to acquire further 3G and 4G spectrums and improve spectral efficiency.  With a smaller cell size, network operators can use a smaller and lower power device which can more easily deploy in the streetscape, campuses, buildings, and homes.  Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio technology supports the full range of wireless technologies, including 2G, 3G and 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi. This provides mobile operators with the capability to grow their network capacity to meet exploding demand for data services with higher speeds and in a smaller physical space. Small Cells are designed following HetNets strategy which handling traffic in the layer in i.e. dense area or hotspot, indoor QoE improvement, and urban capacity layer etc. They predominantly provide cellular coverage in environments where the macro struggles to provide adequate service.

Alcatel-Lucent holds more than 31 MSP commercial small cell deployment agreements. Publicly announced customers include: Telefonica in Spain, Etisalat and du in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), MegaFon and VimpelCom in Russia, Optus in Australia, and the Vodafone Group, that selected Alcatel-Lucent as its preferred vendor for “Sure Signal” femtocell services in the UK and New Zealand, “Booster” in Italy, and “Private 3G Zone” in the Czech Republic.
